Jakarta post
Bukit Barisan Military Command (Kodam) 1 has confirmed that one of its personnel attacked a female gas station attendant in Deli Serdang regency of North Sumatra.
Bukit Barisan Kodam 1 spokesperson Lt. Col. Roy Sinaga has apologized for the behavior.
“I apologize on behalf of Bukit Barisan Kodam 1. I expect anyone to speak politely when reprimanding someone, especially service providers,” he said on Thursday.
Roy said the local military would punish any military personnel proven to have committed violence. He also said the military was investigating the latest incident.
“All members of the TNI are the same as the general public under the law. Whoever violates protocol is subject to punitive measures,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.
The incident, which occurred in Tanjung Morawa on Wednesday, was recorded by the gas station’s CCTV cameras in footage that has since spread widely across social media.
The incident, initially started by a woman accompanying the military personnel riding a motorbike, had an argument with the attendant, identified as A. She got off the motorbike and approached A as their argument continued, and people gathered to try to stop the quarrel.
The military man was seen at one point in the video kicking the attendant once.
Gas station supervisor Jonson Sitorus said the family of the victim had reported the attack to the gas station office a day later.
