Ride Hailing







The Transportation Ministry announced  - that the government is not planning to launch its own ride-hailing app.

The Ministry quashed media speculation over the past several days.
Government would focus on carrying out its duties as a regulator.

It was now preparing a more comprehensive regulation on ride-hailing services.
“With this clarification, I hope there will no longer be speculation about a state-owned ride-hailing app.

The government is focusing on drafting a regulation, and I will not mix the tasks of regulator and operator,”

He told (at) a press conference.
Previously the government was planning to develop its own ride-hailing app through state-owned telecommunication company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia.

The platform will be like the one owned by the South Korean government.
Only Go-Jek and Grab which have been registered by the ministry as ride-hailing service providers.
The idea of establishing a state-owned ride-hailing app originally came from representatives of the Ride-Hailing App Drivers Association,

It demanded the government operate its own service so that the industry was not only dominated by Grab and Go-Jek.
The drivers complained about their declining incomes as more and more people became ride-hailing app drivers.

They have called on the government to launch its own version.

The two largest ride-hailing application providers -- Go-Jek and Grab – have welcomed the government’s plan to establish its own ride-hailing application, 

with the aim of giving more choice to customers and nurturing fair competition.
“The government’s move will make it possible for people to choose the best transportation service.

A level playing field and customer satisfaction should be prioritized.

Previously, the Transportation Ministry announced its plan to establish a ride-hailing application managed by a state-owned enterprise.
The ministry will cooperate with state-owned telecommunication company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia to create the platform.
Ridzki expressed his readiness to cooperate with the government to improve app-based transportation.

He assured that the service would be safe, convenient and affordable.
“It is our objective to create more efficient transportation services.

Transportation Ministry Land Transportation Director General Budi Setiyadi said the government would focus on carrying out its duties as a regulator and that it was now preparing a more comprehensive regulation on ride-hailing services.
“With this clarification, I hope there will no longer be speculation about a state-owned ride-hailing app. The government is focusing on drafting a regulation, and I will not mix the tasks of regulator and operator,” Budi told a press conference.
Previously, quoting the ministry's public transportation and multi-mode director Ahmad Yani, several media outlets reported that the government was planning to develop its own ride-hailing app through state-owned telecommunication company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia. “The platform will be like the one owned by the South Korean government,” Yani said.
