Youth Leader







The Balikpapan District Court has sentenced a former leader of a youth organization to 12 years in prison  after he was found guilty of molesting nine teenagers.
Green Generationn  is an environmental organization for teenagers.

He led the organization when he abused nine boys in several different cities - in his capacity as the organization’s chief.
The police received the first complaint from a victim in October last year;

and later the police discovered another eight victims.

All nine boys were underage.
Pandu was immediately arrested in Yogyakarta,

and later Green Generation dismissed him from his position.

He is the Balikpapan antive.
The panel of judges said he was guilty of sodomy.

It was revealed in the victims’ testimonies.
“The defendant will also be fined Rp 1 million [US$67.40],”

said presiding judge Agus when delivering the verdict.

Pandu decided to appeal the verdict.
Before the case emerged, Pandu was known as a youth with abundant achievements.

When he was arrested, he was waiting to graduate from Gadjah Mada University.

He was also preparing to go to the United Kingdom to continue his studies.
Police investigation found that the nine victims were aged between 12 and 17 in 2013 when the crime took place.

They were students in junior and senior high schools.

Pandu himself was 17 years old at the time.
The victims resided in Balikpapan, Samarinda, and Tarakan.
He is being detained at the East Kalimantan Prosecutors’ Office ahead of his first hearing for allegedly sexually abusing nine boys.
“We have sent the suspect, evidence and dossiers to the East Kalimantan Prosecutors’ Office,” East Kalimantan Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ade Yaya Suryana said on Saturday. 
Pandu was previously detained for 120 days at the East Kalimantan Police from December last year to March 16.
But after reviewing the police’s dossiers on the case, the prosecutors’ office returned the document citing lack of evidence.

Panda was subsequently released from custody.
The hearing would be next week but did not specify the date.
He was accused of sexually abusing nine boys in several different cities in his capacity as then-leader of the NGO,

The NGO organized events for elementary and high school students to raise awareness about protecting the environment. 
In February last year, when the accusations against him were not yet made public, Green Generation cooperated with Environment and Forestry Ministry for a “national green jamboree” event.

He said in a press release at the time the NGO had reached more than 2 million young people.
He was close to finishing his undergraduate degree in Communication Science at Gadjah Mada University (UGM).

A prolific activist, he had also applied for a scholarship at a British university when his alleged victims spoke up.
Pandu was known as a high achiever in his hometown of Balikpapan, the provincial capital.     
Police said they received the first complaint from an alleged victim in October last year. Their investigation revealed eight more.

Fomer green leader in Kalimantan convicted of child molestation

Pandu Dharma Wicaksono, 22, led Green Generation, an environmental organization for teenagers, when he abused nine boys in several different cities in his capacity as the organization’s chief.
The police received the first complaint from a victim in October last year and later discovered another eight victims. All nine boys were underage.
Pandu was immediately arrested in Yogyakarta, and later Green Generation dismissed him from his position.
The panel of judges said the Balikpapan native was guilty of sodomy, which was revealed in the victims’ testimonies.
