We are residents in Indonesia’s big cities.

Motorcycle taxis may be one of the most convenient modes of public transportation for residents.

The vehicles are able to maneuver through the clogged streets.

However, the compact size of a motorcycle and the close proximity of the driver to the passenger has concerned some.

She rode a motorcycle when travelling around the housing complex.

Sometimes she prefers to hop an ojek when traveling further.

As a muslim family, they adhered to the belief that members of the opposite sex that are not family are not allowed to touch. (mengkikuti – menempel – sejalan).

He prefer his wife not to ride with a male driver.

We find it hard to find women drivers.

They had the idea of creating a ride-hailing app specifically for women.

It turn out our friends had the same problem eventually founded and developed the app.

Shejek launched in Bandung where the couple live.


The service caters specifically to women as the name implies.


It implements values in line with sharia beliefs.


Drivers are required to dress in a sharia fashion.


They are required to wear loose fitting clothes, preferably a long skirt and long headscarf.


They can wear trousers, but they would still need to wear long blouse that covers their bottom.


The rules do not apply to users.


It has gained popularity among Bandung city residents.


It has spread its reach across Bandung regency and even to neighboring cities such as Jak and even Mak.


The app, however, is not the first of its kind.





Ojesy is another transportation service catering to women,

It was established in 2015.


Similarly, both services operates from 5 to 7 pm.


It’s affordable price makes it a popular option among users that have evidently extended beyond the west java capital.


There is still limited capital which affects our services.


The app often crashes and malfunctions.


Despite technical limitation, drivers and users can still communicate and book trips via chat platform.


They are unfamiliar with the app usage preferred to book via chat anyway.


She has been using it for several months now.


Although I had download the app, I didn’t use it anymore since I had forgotten the password.


You cannot book a trip for an immediate ride.


To be safe (untuk amannya), it must be booked the day before.

Defamation

They are activists in nine cities across the country.

They have deplored the impending imprisonment of Nur.

Nur is an alleged victim of sexual harassment.

She has been sentenced to prison for defamation.

Prosecutors have demanded that she start serving her prison time on Wednesday.

She was sentenced to 6month in prison.

She was fined Rp. 500 m after supreme court found her guilty of defaming her alleged harasser.

The harraser is a principal of the school where she worked.

She has circulated a recording of a phone call.

In a phone call, the principal boasted about his sexual escapade with her colleague, overturning a lower court’s not guilty verdict.

She and her lawyers are preparing a case review to challenge the verdict (putusan).

She is maintaining that she has done nothing wrong.

She has only taped the phone call but not distributed the recording.

He often call her and shared stories of his sexual acts.

In several conversations he asked to meet her in a hotel room for a tryst.

A campaigner started an online fundraising drive on internet to help her pay her fine.

As of Sunday morning, donations collected totaled more than Rp. 283 or more than half of her fine.

 She was convicted of defaming a man she accused of sexually harassing her.

She reported his superior to the police for his alleged crime.
Accompanied by ….she visited police bringing evidence.

Among evidence submitted was a copy of the court’s ruling that he committed sexual harassment against her.

He was reported for violation of article 294 of criminal code on officials committing obscene deeds against subordinate or persons under their responsibility.

The penalties carries a maximum seven years’ imprisonment.

The supreme court sentenced her to 6 months’ imprisonment and

Ordered her to pay a fine of Rp. 500 m after finding guilty of defaming M.

He was at the time of the alleged harassment the headmaster of the public high school.

She was convicted of circulating a recording of a phone call in which ..

He talked about his sexual relations with another woman.

She claimed she had only taped the phone call and

Someone else distributed the recording.



No immediate jail and fine 

His office (Attorney General) will delay her incarceration and fining. (penahanan).

We have heard the public perception of (a miscarriage of) justice, (keguguran)

So we are delaying carrying out the sentence.

The decision was also in response to (sebagai jawaban) a request by her legal team.

He encouraged the lawyers to quickly file for a case review.

I can imagine, without the support from all parties, it would surely be very difficult for me to get true justice.

She told during a press conference.

She learned about (mengetahui) the delay only from the mass media.

We will ask for a written statement from the prosecutors’ office on the delay so she will have legal force for it.

However, the lawyers would not be able to immediately file for a case review by the Supreme Court, he said, because they had not received a copy of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which is required for a case review submission.

NU has spoken up to support her who is facing jail time for defaming a man.

The man allegedly harassed her.

They hoped that the court would release her after deliberating a case review she planned to file.

I hope the reputation and dignity of her can be restored in the case review verdict. (martabat – putusan).

Long Flight Sing - NY

They were invited to join the inaugural flights of Sing – NY.

The flight covers a distance of approximately 16,700 km, making it the world’s longest commercial flight.

I was among the journalists who boarded the aircraft.

It departed from Changi and arrived at NJ on Oct. 12.

I returned to Sing from NY on flight SQ21, giving more opportunity to observe the aircraft.

Prior to boarding the SQ22, I sent my cousin, who happens to be an aviation geek, a photo of the aircraft.

He expressed his admiration for the aircraft’s wingtips.

For aviation geeks, the new aircraft is seen as revolutionary.

The plane comes with new features, such as quitter cabins, larger windows, and more, offering extra comfort for passengers.

But what is it really like to spend almost a day in the air?

Fly in comfort
The plane itself boasts higher ceiling, larger window, an extra wide body. (membanggakan)

A lighting system is designed to reduce jet lag and a quitter cabin.
Among all these features, I noticed that the quitter cabin helped make the long flight more bearable (lumayan).
I sat in the business class.

Once I put in the earplugs, I could barely hear anything (hampir), allowing me to sleep more soundly on the flight. (nyenyak).

I also interviewed during the maiden flight.

The quitter cabin allowed us to converse comfortably.

Sleep and work in the sky


I am glad to report that they (premium eco class seats) are wider than the usual eco class seats.

Prior to departure, I tried the seat and discovered it to be more comfortable than usual eco class seats.
The seat can be turned into beds.

They also adds extra padding on the flat bed, a blanket, and one firm, and one soft pillow.

Being five-feet tall, I did not have any issues sleeping on the flight.

During the – route, I slept for around six hours straight.

While on the return flight, the crew had to wake me up for a midflight meal.

However, those taller than me may find it harder to sleep straight on the bed. (tidur lurus)

Sleeping was not the only thing I could do in the flight.

The seats are equipped with an in-seat laptop power supply.

I managed to finish an article and sent emails.

This was also thanks to (berkat) the fact the flight comes with Wi-fi.

I found eyeshades, socks, and slippers placed on my seat. (sandal).

However it does not provide … , hence, it is recommended to bring your own sleepwear for the long flight.

The journey from Sing to Ny takes around 18 hours 45 minutes.

However, thanks to the wind, the inaugural flight took just 17 hours and 52 munites.
