Defamation

They have deplored the impending imprisonment of Nur.

Nur is an alleged victim of sexual harassment.

She has been sentenced to prison for defamation.

Prosecutors have demanded that she start serving her prison time on Wednesday.

She was sentenced to 6month in prison.

She was fined Rp. 500 m after supreme court found her guilty of defaming her alleged harasser.

The harraser is a principal of the school where she worked.

She has circulated a recording of a phone call.

In a phone call, the principal boasted about his sexual escapade with her colleague, overturning a lower court’s not guilty verdict.

She and her lawyers are preparing a case review to challenge the verdict (putusan).

She is maintaining that she has done nothing wrong.

She has only taped the phone call but not distributed the recording.

He often call her and shared stories of his sexual acts.

In several conversations he asked to meet her in a hotel room for a tryst.

A campaigner started an online fundraising drive on internet to help her pay her fine.

As of Sunday morning, donations collected totaled more than Rp. 283 or more than half of her fine.

 She was convicted of defaming a man she accused of sexually harassing her.

She reported his superior to the police for his alleged crime.
Accompanied by ….she visited police bringing evidence.

Among evidence submitted was a copy of the court’s ruling that he committed sexual harassment against her.

He was reported for violation of article 294 of criminal code on officials committing obscene deeds against subordinate or persons under their responsibility.

The penalties carries a maximum seven years’ imprisonment.

The supreme court sentenced her to 6 months’ imprisonment and

Ordered her to pay a fine of Rp. 500 m after finding guilty of defaming M.

She was convicted of circulating a recording of a phone call in which ..

No immediate jail and fine 

His office (Attorney General) will delay her incarceration and fining. (penahanan).

So we are delaying carrying out the sentence.

The decision was also in response to (sebagai jawaban) a request by her legal team.

He encouraged the lawyers to quickly file for a case review.

I can imagine, without the support from all parties, it would surely be very difficult for me to get true justice.

She told during a press conference.

She learned about (mengetahui) the delay only from the mass media.

We will ask for a written statement from the prosecutors’ office on the delay so she will have legal force for it.

However, the lawyers would not be able to immediately file for a case review by the Supreme Court, he said, because they had not received a copy of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which is required for a case review submission.

NU has spoken up to support her who is facing jail time for defaming a man.

The man allegedly harassed her.

They hoped that the court would release her after deliberating a case review she planned to file.

I hope the reputation and dignity of her can be restored in the case review verdict. (martabat – putusan).
