Victims of abuse on uni campuses have begun to speak up in the past few years.

It shows that schools are not always a space for students, especially women.

Sadly, victims’ courage has been met with blame and scrutiny by school and state authorities.

A report released by X is the latest case in point.

It detailed the experience of Sis, a pseudonym.

She claimed (that) she had been emotionally/physically assaulted by a fellow student during a community service program.

Instead of investigating the matter, her teacher gave her a low grade for embarrassing univ in the eyes of Maluku people with her report.

She should have not spent the night at the alleged perpetrator’s lodging. (tersangka – penginapan).

Two years earlier (sebelumnya), several students had come forward to report sexual harassment by a lecture.

Reports began pouring in (mengalir deras) after he no longer headed  the department.

In 2016, one of victims, Merry (also a pseudonym) had thought long and hard before reporting the incident.

She, too, was blamed for what happened to her, though not by school officials.

However, the school allow the lecture allow him to continue working and to be seen around campus (berkeliaran di sekitaran).

Not even as school as prestigious as UI has been able to escape sexual/physical abuse allegation (tuduhan) raised (dikemukakan) by students.

in one particular case that marred (merusak) its school of law, the accused lecturer was fired, but …

other lecturers who had sided with the victims …their battle for justice have been a difficult one.

many believe that the recent reports are only the tip of the iceberg.

93% of physical assault cases were never reported.

Many victims who spoke up believe that doing so is crucial to prevent a repeat of the crime.

Therefore (dengan demikian), helping universities create a safe space for their students.

So far, however, the response has not been encouraging.

Both the victim and alleged perpetrator needed to be educated.

His response is insinuating that the victim was also in the wrong.

The case should not have been made public.

It is implying that it was wrong for the alleged victim to speak up about her ordeal.

Brave survivors are a bright light in the dark.
Al-assault.

They need support from the public as …
One dismissive comment (meremehkan, tak acuh) can dim the light. (meredupkan)

If the univ cannot encourage them to speak up, then safe campuses will remain a fantasy.

The alleged offender, identified only as, has completed his studies at the university.

He is set to graduate. While ….

She is struggling to advocate for herself.

We want univ to handle all physical violence cases thoroughly and dismiss the perpetrators.

The latest case was not the univ first and univ has not been siding with victims.

The rally also highlited that univ was facing a sexual violence emergency.

In mere hours (hanya dalam hitungan jam), hundreds of students signed their names and contact details on a white banner in a show of solidarity.

Kentongan (bamboo slit drums) are traditionally played to warn of incoming danger in villages.

This will not stop today. They will continue the rally until all violence are settled and the univ is free from violence.

He lamented the univ’s slow progress in handling the case.

It is slow in implementing recommendations.

Separately, she criticized univ for failing to bring her justice.

Violence in universities is becoming harder to handle because, most of the time, the univ prioritize their reputation over thorough settlement of a case.

And also it is because there is a lack of commitment to protect the victims.

She has suffered from depression.

Expert were currently focusing on trauma counselling.

He demanded that H be legally punished.

The perpetrator has to be reported to the police.

In response to the uproar, she has expressed its sympathy to her,

She pledged to bring justice for her.

Univ will also take the necessary steps to bring this case to legal domain.
“The UGM will also take the necessary steps to bring this case to the legal domain,” she said.

The report made headlines across the country.
The alleged identity and pictures of Him began to circulate online mere hours after the report was published.
