Police Industrial Relations

The Jakarta Police have inaugurated a manpower division
to handle industrial conflicts as disputes related to manpower have become more complex.

The division is under the police’s special crime directorate.

"The manpower division has been established,".

Given that manpower-related issues have become more complex, Iwan said

the police felt the need to handle them more seriously.

Over the last three years, the Jakarta Police have handled 76 crime cases related to manpower disputes,

57 of which involved underpaid workers,
10 pertained to unions and [menyinggung]
nine involved unpaid Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) premiums.

"We aim to better protect those in the manpower sector," Iwan said,

noting that the aforementioned examples were their main focus.
The division occupies a room at the Jakarta Police headquarters’ main hall, consisting of a complain filing and counselling room.
Those who file complaints will be counseled by an officer to determine the type of conflict or alleged crime
If a crime is suspected of having taking place, the complainant will be instructed to file a police report.
The police have deployed 16 officers to handle the division’s affairs.
The division was created as a follow up to a meeting between President and seven worker unions in Bogor, on April 26.
Besides Jakarta, such divisions have been established in 15 other provinces.
