Batik Air
has reported a passenger to the police for smoking in a plane’s toilet while flying.
After
the flight landed the pilot reported the incident to ground handling and
aviation security officers,
who then reported the man to the police and airport
authority.
“All
Batik Air flights are smoke-free, including smoking electronic cigarettes.
On each flight, a flight attendant always announces the smoking prohibition.
Under a civil flight security regulation,
each
plane with a capacity of 20 passengers or more
is required to install a smoke detector in each toilet as well as
a fire extinguisher.
(FAA) prohibited smoking on airplanes while in
flight in 1989,
with the
ban being adopted internationally in 1998.
In the
statement, Batik Air urged all passengers to abide by the regulation.
