In response to the blasphemy charge against a middle-aged woman identified only as SM

who entered a mosque with a dog on Sunday
 (MUI) officially stated that

such an action would only be considered blasphemous

had it been done intentionally by a person of sound mind. 

“It would only be considered blasphemous
if it were done by a sane person.

However, if the person who did such a thing turned out to be mentally ill,

it’s an entirely different story,”

Dog at center of blasphemy accusation against owner found dead in Bogor

The dog that was brought into the Mosque by its owner has been found dead.

his personnel found the small black dog lying lifeless
on the side of a street near the mosque on Tuesday morning.

“Our personnel were the first ones to find the dead dog near the mosque,

he didn’t know what had caused its death.

“We’ve reported the dead dog to the police.

Meanwhile, local resident Esther Imelda wrote in a Facebook post that

the dog was run over by a passing car

as it tried to avoid several people

who were approaching it in a nearby park.

“[The dog] went to cross the street,

but a passing car ran it over.

It died on the spot. We’re sorry we couldn’t do much,”.

The post also featured several graphic photos of the dead dog 
including one that shows its bloody snout.

She also accused the mosque of hosting her Muslim husband’s wedding with another woman. She was accompanied by her dog,
SM is currently in police custody.

Woman accused of blasphemy to face prosecution despite mental illness

they would continue the legal process against a Catholic woman accused of blasphemy
for bringing her pet dog into a mosque
even though she has been officially declared to be mentally unsound.  

Family members of the woman have submitted to the police
two letters from two different hospitals confirming that
the 50-year-old woman had a history of mental illness.

SM has been named a blasphemy suspect,
She has been undergoing observation at the National Police Hospital.

the conclusions derived from the observations would be announced on Wednesday.
The officer, however, also stressed that

a conclusion that she was not mentally sound would not stop the legal process against her. 

"Even after the suspect is announced to have a mental illness,

the legal proceedings will continue until the [Bogor District] court decides

whether the charge should be dropped,".

that a person who is mentally ill could not be held responsible for her actions. 
"In Islam, people with mental illness are spared from punishment,".

The council, however, stopped short of calling on the police to stop the investigation into the case,

saying it would not interfere with the ongoing legal process.

A woman has caused a stir on social media when
a video of her entering a mosque in Sentul – with a dog – went viral.

 SM entered the Al Munawaroh Mosque at around 2 p.m. on Sunday, saying that she was looking for her husband. 

She was accompanied by a dog,
Many Muslims consider dogs to be unclean or impure,

particularly their saliva, and most try their best to avoid contact with canine saliva.
Worshippers at the mosque immediately asked the woman to leave the premises.
Local police arrived later that afternoon and took SM into custody for questioning. 

Police also gathered four witnesses,
including those who were at the mosque when SM entered with a dog.
The preliminary report of the investigation found SM to be mentally impaired.
It is unclear whether SM is the dog's owner.

Mentally ill' woman arrested, charged with blasphemy for entering Bogor mosque with dog

The Bogor Police have detained SM, 
the woman who entered a mosque with a dog and her shoes on
and charged her with blasphemy. 
investigators have named SM a suspect based on evidence and witness statements.
“Based on the statements of five witnesses and several items of corroborating evidence

like a video recording of the incident and SM’s clothing,
including her shoes
– which she didn’t take off when entering the mosque – 

investigators have named her a suspect.
SM is currently in police custody.
SM has been charged under Article 156 of the Criminal Code on blasphemy.

SM’s family has provided letters from two hospitals stating that
the suspect had a history of mental illness.

The police will be conducting a psychological evaluation to verify the hospitals' statements.

who brought her dog into Mosque. 

“We condemn the act [of bringing a dog into a mosque], regardless of any personal reason.

 The woman also did not take off her shoes when entering the mosque.

despite the grave nature of her actions,

he urged Muslims to remain cool-headed
amid unsubstantiated claims that could potentially blow the issue out of proportion.
